Live-in care
What is live-in care?
Live-in care means employing a full-time carer who lives in your home and helps your loved one with their daily routine; getting washed and dressed, managing medication, attending to any care needs, preparing food, doing the shopping, managing the house, and supporting regular social activities both at home and away from home.
Just as important, a carer acts as a companion: someone to talk to, play games or do the crossword with – or simply be there in the background, keeping a gentle eye on things.
A day with a carer
Support your care needs, managing medication, washing, dressing and the daily routine, always at your loved one's pace, always with dignity.
Preparing meals, doing the shopping and managing the home, so daily life carries on as it always has.
Support with social activities in the home and away from it — clubs, friends, appointments, the garden centre.
Someone to talk to, take a walk or do the crossword with, or simply a reassuring presence in the background.
Duties aren't pre-defined. We help you articulate what they should be; no list is prescriptive.
All our carers are highly experienced and adapt to multiple situations and personalities.
Why choose live-in care?
As we get older, we all need some form of additional support. Typically that starts with family, but it’s often difficult to know when the demands become too complicated to manage.
Live-in care is often a more cost-effective and dignified solution than a residential home. Your loved ones stay in the comfort of their own home, and they and the family are able to define their own routine, rather than fitting around someone else’s schedule.
A common worry
Yes, it’s true that it might feel strange at first. But, your carer won’t be a stranger for long, and having someone there full-time puts you in control of daily routines, rather than relying on someone booked in at a pre-defined time with limited flexibility. It won’t take long for them to sound like a family member when referred to in conversations.
To maintain continuity, expect your carer to be in situ for around 4–8 weeks, depending on circumstances, at which point they’ll usually take a couple of weeks off to recharge. We ensure there’s a trusted interim carer to cover that time — so support never has a gap.
“It has been incredibly reassuring speaking with Ben from Chaytor & Swann. He has offered us kind, sensible and pragmatic advice on the type of care and carer that would work best for us. His advice has been invaluable in helping us decide on a care plan for our mother with Alhemziers and I very much look forward to working with him in the future”
